Time to Take it Up a Notch.

Just when I was getting used to my training programme it was time to start some speed work.

Last nights session involved a 15 minute jog to the track,  5 x 5 minute plus 1 minute active recovery followed by 15 minute jog home.

It was good to see so many people using the track considering the […]

What Happens When you Don’t Have a “Plan B” ?

Anyone who has been following my blogs will know that last year my goal was to run 2,016 miles. The plan was to run 5.5 miles everyday. I didn’t always hit my target but I thought that by running some long distance races I would make up the miles.

I ran two half marathons and one […]

Dream Big

Last night was day 300 of my runstreak.  Having mistimed dinner time for a 7.00 p.m. jog I made it out for 5 miles at 8.30 p.m.

My legs are still feeling fresh after all these miles. It might have something to do with the extra magnesium I have been taking.

I have signed up to marshal […]

Expectation vs Reality

I thought I could combine the busiest working week of the year with the most amount of miles I’ve run in one week and hit the 900 mile mark for the year.

It was nice to be so enthusiastic but in reality it was probably never going to happen.

Thankfully I have now run 915 miles and […]

How Much Rest is Too Much Rest?

I read a post recently from someone who had a soft tissue injury. They were ruling themselves out of all running activity for the rest of the year.

Soft tissue injuries are annoying, but they are short time injuries if treated properly.

The last couple of weeks have been pretty frustrating for me. After running the half […]

Smart Training

I mentioned in a previous blog the risks of over-training.

If you are starting out running, cycling, swimming or any other sport,  Training 2,3 or 4 days in a row can be doing you more harm than good.

In the case of running it is important to get your stride and technique right before you start any […]

Lots Happening in the World of Running Lately

On April 2nd I ran my first parkrun 5km. I ran with Kitty from ‘On The Road Again’. She hadn’t been running for a while. I was just happy to get out for a run and see what the parkrun course was like. 105 people running 5km at 9:30 on a Saturday morning is a […]

The Numbers are Starting to Add Up

On Saturday I ran a 10km race in Castlerock just outside Coleraine.

This was my 144th race, 24th county I’ve run in and I hit the 400 mile mark for the year. I’ve never spent as much time looking at entering a race as I have with this 10km race, which I heard about on social media and I thought […]

Another Milestone

I’ve been putting in the miles over the past couple of days and I hit the 300 mile mark yesterday afternoon – so taking it easy for the next two days as I have my first half marathon of the year on Saturday morning in Kinvara.

Earlier in the week I went out to Sean in […]

Will You Rise to the Challenge?

A couple of things Gerry Duffy mentioned caught my attention.

He had asked the room if we wrote down our goals.

It got me thinking. I don’t actually write my goals down anywhere.

He suggested writing them down and having them somewhere visible around the house to remind us of our goals. He also suggested putting up a […]
