I was delayed getting in to Loughrea due to heavy traffic.   This meant my warm up was a bit of a rushed job.

Another fast start. I hit the first km in 4.23. Hopefully the small inclines will slow me down a bit.  This year the hill got the better of me.  I crossed the line in a time of 25.33.  Three seconds faster than Craughwell.

On Friday I cycled down to Kinvara to meet Mary Nolan Hickey as she made her way to Galway.  This  was to be Mary’s last day cycling before she went home for a week.

The weather was great and it wasn’t long before I rolled into Kinvara.  I checked the tracker to discover that Mary wasn’t far away.  She rolled into Kinvara about 20 minutes later.  I had a great chat with her over a bowl of soup.

We were soon back on the road.  Despite one or two hills it wasn’t long before we made it to Kilcolgan.  As we were ahead of schedule we decided to stop for a coffee.

I got a good chance to talk to Mary about her running career.  Mary has run all 39 Dublin City Marathons.  We spoke of my experience running in Dublin and my 5okm ultra in Portumna.

We didn’t have far left to cycle and I decided to stop off at Oranmore Castle to get some pictures.  Traffic was starting to build up as we got closer to the city . We landed in to the R.N.L.I station and had a nice chat to some of the volunteers there.

Mary has been back on the road for the last two days and is currently out around Letterfrack. You can check out her progress on https://www.facebook.com/rnlilapofthemap2019/

I didn’t make it to Athenry for the 5km as I was at the launch of the “Wires Crossed “ event for Galway 2020. I also popped down to Claddagh on Friday  to see some of the team crossing the basin in preparation for August 2020.

There are workshops on this weekend.  I’m looking forward to practising on Sunday.  More details on www.galwaycommunitycircus.com

I had a good session on the track last Sunday.  I was hitting 4.54 per km.  The route for Tuam is looking flat and fast.  I’m hoping to be closer to the 25 minute mark.

Entry is now open for “Streets of Galway 8km “ on August 10th www.active.com

My training for Galway Bay Marathon could be starting as early as next week.   I’m doing a few gym sessions a week with a mix of cardio, resistance training and spinning classes.

I’m also training for a cycle from Croke Park to Corofin on August 4th.   If you would like to make a donation please go to www.idonate.ie/colmomaille

Best of luck to everyone taking part in the V.h.i mini marathon on Sunday.
