Last Friday I drove up to Navan for a 4 mile race. I haven’t run that many 4 mile races but it was nice to be back out racing.
I brought my old pair of runners as I wasn’t sure how my feet were doing. I was a bit nervous as we waited at the start line. What if I gave myself some new blisters? Did I have enough training done for the race.
I had to remind myself that I’d gotten through the last two miles of a half marathon with an injured foot.
It wasn’t long before the starter gun went and we were on our way down the road. The route was fairly flat through country roads with plenty of trees to give us shade as it was a warm evening.
I was running at a steady pace of just over 8 minutes per mile. I held this pace until just after the 3 mile mark. It wasn’t long before we were back at Claremont Stadium. I was saving myself for the finish line that was at the end of the running track. As we came of the last corner and entered the track I pulled away and made one last sprint to cross the finish line in under 31 mins.
I was delighted with my time and it was great to have another race under my belt.
I should reach the 600 mile mark of my 2,016 mile challenge by Saturday.
My outdoor bootcamps are going pretty well. I still have a have spaces left on Monday and Wednesday at 7.00 p.m.
If you are looking to run a 5k or 8k race this summer now is the time to start training. I have a training group on Thursday at 7.00 p.m.
This Friday night in the Galway Bay Hotel I will be joining a group of more than 60 people who will be walking across hot coals to raise money for the Manuela Riedo Foundation.
